Great Aussie Duck Race in Bright

posted in: Club News, News

Each year for the past thirty years, Bright has been the annual location for the, Great Australian Duck Race”. This has been a community event, usually held on the second weekend in January, in support of the local Life Education program, supporting the youth of the region. During the COVID years the event caused to original organisers to lose interest and the event was cancelled.

The Bright Lions Club decided in the second half of last year (2022) to become the organisers of the event. One thousand tickets were printed, under the Bright Lions banner, and were sold for $5.00 each. Lions combined with the Bright Chalet to host the revitalised event in Centenary Park Bright on Saturday 14th of January.

The Lions Club provided hot food, fairy floss and snow cones to the hundreds who were in the park. The Bright Chalet provided the music, with a wonderful youth brass band. The Bright SES provided the safety barriers either side of Morse’s Creek and corralled the 1000 ducks at the starting line. Lions members were in the creek to catch the first four ducks across the finishing line.

$3500 will be donated to the local Life Education program. The Bright Lions Club has taken the event ‘under its wing’ and will next year ensure the event is bigger than ever.
